Overview
The Strong to the Bone Campaign was an interactive YouTube Masthead execution developed for Women’s Horlicks, with The Glitch Media as the lead agency. The objective was to transform a traditionally passive ad format into an engaging, participatory experience that resonated with modern women.
Built using Google Web Designer (GWD), HTML5 animation, Custom Scripting, and expandable rich media, the campaign leveraged a chalkboard-inspired visual style to create a playful yet meaningful interaction. Users were invited to engage directly with the ad, turning awareness into action through a simple, intuitive game mechanic.
The creative narrative centered around a powerful insight: just like chalk builds a drawing, strong bones build a woman’s life story.
Challenges
Women’s bone health is an important but often overlooked topic, and traditional digital ads struggle to hold attention long enough to communicate such messages effectively.
The key challenges were:
• Low engagement with standard masthead formats on YouTube
• Difficulty in making health awareness feel personal and relatable
• Capturing attention in a highly cluttered digital environment
• Encouraging users to actively participate rather than passively consume
The brand needed a solution that would not only drive visibility but also create meaningful interaction and recall.
Execution
To break away from passive ad consumption, we transformed the YouTube masthead into an interactive, gamified experience that invited users to actively engage with the message.
The campaign began as a standard masthead banner featuring a bold prompt:
“Are you strong to the bone?” — designed to spark curiosity and drive clicks.
Once engaged, the banner expanded into a full interactive chalkboard interface, visually rooted in hand-drawn chalk illustrations to create an instantly relatable and playful environment.
At the core of the experience was a simple yet compelling interaction:
• Users were given a virtual chalk tool
• They were prompted to scribble and fill in the phrase before the chalk gradually wore out
• The mechanic introduced urgency, tactile satisfaction, and repeat interaction
This intuitive gameplay significantly increased dwell time, as users stayed longer to complete the interaction, turning a typically fleeting ad format into an immersive experience.
As the chalk diminished, the narrative seamlessly transitioned into the campaign message:
“Like this chalk, your bones build your story. Keep them strong for more.”
The experience concluded with a clear call-to-action, guiding users to check their bone health—effectively converting engagement into awareness.
By combining gamification, storytelling, and a visually distinctive execution, the campaign not only drove higher interaction rates than standard mastheads but also achieved strong brand recall. Its playful yet meaningful approach helped it gain organic traction and shareability, pushing the campaign beyond paid visibility into viral territory.
