Overview

The Netflix Diwali Campaign was an interactive advertising experience designed to capture attention and drive engagement on YouTube’s masthead placement. The campaign was executed for Netflix, with The Glitch as the lead agency, who partnered with us to develop and execute the interactive experience.

At the time, Netflix was expanding its presence in India, and the objective was to create a high-impact, festive campaign that could connect with audiences instantly.

Built using HTML-based animations and interactive scripting, the concept blended Diwali-inspired elements with recognizable content from popular Netflix shows like Narcos, Breaking Bad, Stranger Things (Hellfire), and Sense8.

By leveraging familiar scenes and high-impact moments from these shows, the campaign transformed a standard masthead ad into an engaging, user-driven experience—encouraging interaction while aligning with the festive energy of Diwali.

Challenges

At the time, Netflix was still establishing its presence in India. While audiences were familiar with certain shows and viral clips, the platform itself wasn’t yet deeply embedded in everyday viewing habits.

The challenge was:

• How do you make a YouTube masthead ad stand out in a crowded digital environment?
• How do you turn a passive ad format into an interactive experience?
• How do you connect with audiences using content they already recognize and enjoy?

The goal was to:

• Capture immediate attention
• Encourage user interaction
• Create a memorable brand experience during a high-traffic festive period

Execution

We developed an interactive Diwali-themed ad experience that transformed the concept of traditional firecrackers into a digital engagement mechanic.

Users were presented with a set of firecracker-style buttons, each representing a popular Netflix show. Instead of lighting a real firecracker, users could click on these show-based elements to trigger action.

Each interaction played a selected clip from the show, specifically focusing on explosive or high-impact scenes.

As the clip played, the explosion effect extended beyond the video—visually “blasting” across the entire ad banner. This created the illusion that the user was actively bursting a firecracker within the ad itself.

Execution Highlights:

• Gave life to the Designed interactive UI mimicking festive firecracker selection
• Integrated recognisable show clips as engagement hooks
• Built dynamic HTML-based animations for real-time interaction
• Assisted in Deploying the YouTube masthead for maximum visibility

The result was a highly engaging ad unit that combined familiarity, interaction, and festive relevance—encouraging users not just to watch, but to participate.
